(Lanka-e-News -06.Jan.2017, 11.30PM) A Cultural center at a cost of Indian rupees 12 billion ( SLRs. 26.4 billion ) will be constructed in Jaffna, and every possible measure will be taken to halt the poaching of Indian fishermen on Sri Lankan territorial waters for fishing , Sanjay Bandai , the Indian foreign secretary assured during his tour of Jaffna.
The Indian foreign secretary toured Jaffna and spent the whole day there on January 4 th. During the tour he met with a large group including politicos of the North and administrative officials , and surveyed the various projects under way in the North with Indian aid.
The foreign secretary before leaving Jaffna answering questions posed by the journalists said, a special practical training will be given to the Indian fishermen regarding deep sea fishing. Moreover , the Indian government is arranging a financial aid program to provide money to the Indian fishermen after training to purchase their fishing gear and technical equipments ,he added.
After those programs are successfully implemented , it is his belief that Indian fishermen would not poach on Sri Lanka’s northern territorial waters. In addition, in future there will not be any issues in relation to Kachchaitivu , and it is an Islet both Sri Lankan and Indian devotees visited from time immemorial . The annual feast in memory of St. Anthony will also continue in the future , the foreign secretary observed.
It is with a view to further promote and strengthen the harmony and unity among Sri Lankan races that India is constructing a Cultural center spending Ind. Rs. 12 billion . Moreover , Indian government will be providing more aid to the victims of the war too , the foreign secretary disclosed.
