(Lanka-e-News -20.Dec.2014, 11.30PM) Mohan Peiris ,the chief justice better known as ‘cheat justice ‘, along with a group of judges of the judicial service commission (JSC) are getting ready to use the annual judges convention to make the judges fraternity of the judicial service to stoop to the lowliest of levels most disgracefully to do the sordid biddings of the Rajapakse regime including sniffing their stinking loin cloths.
The annual convention of judges is scheduled for 22 nd -23 rd December at the Kingsbury hotel (Intercontinental hotel earlier), Balmoral Hall. On the first day , that is the 22 nd , at 9.15 a.m. Medamulana MaRa is to address this meeting . This is something that has never ever happened in the judicial and Sri Lanka ‘s history.
In the whole judicial history , the annual convention was addressed by the intelligentsia . Intellectuals spoke on the subjects they are specialized . Never was a state administrator or a politico invited. In any country where the independence of the judges and the judiciary are revered , such subversive trends are not encouraged as they are the most dangerous to a sacrosanct judiciary.
The most despicable and reprehensible part of this scenario is : while the Presidential election has been fixed , Mahinda Rajapakse the Presidential candidate is being invited to deliver the keynote address at the judges convention , which in other words is to create a climate for him to exploit the occasion to make it a political platform for his election propaganda .
On top of this action aimed at subverting the hallowed judicial norms, the Central bank governor Ajith Nivad Cabraal too has been invited to address the convention on the 22 nd at 10.30 p.m. If inviting Medamulana Mara is bad , Ajith Nivad Cabraal being invited is worse, for the latter has two cases pending in the Supreme curt (SC) in which he is the accused.
Moreover , this same Central bank governor before he secured that appointment was an accused against whom a verdict was delivered by court that he was guilty of exchange fraud in the Pyramid Organization corrupt deals. So, this is present SL , where a fraudster out and out is invited to address a judges convention, and the judges cannot but listen to him !
This convention is held every year and it is with the contributions of the judges .This is because if judges receive donations from other Institutions the judges become subservient to the latter , and that would be pernicious to an independent judiciary.
Hence , the conventions in the previous years were held on a modest scale . However this year, the expenditure towards this convention is about Rs. 10 million ! Based on reports reaching Lanka e news inside information division , the cost of meals alone at Kingsbury hotel is Rs. 5 million . In addition the sum paid to Kevin Nugera who is providing entertainment and dance recitals is Rs. 2 million whereas for a performance like this of Kevin Nugera usually his charges are Rs. 500,000.00, whereas these wonderful judges on the other hand have paid Rs. 2 million . This disbursement has been made by the Bar Association , and the relevant payment voucher is available.
The most comic part of this crazy tamasha is , the bar association that is disbursing Rs. 2 million for this convention towards which nearly Rs. 10 million is being expended , has in its account only Rs. 125,000/- ! How come then , the association with such limited funds , able to hold a convention costing Rs. 10 million?
In the circumstances, can anybody say , the judges have not collected this large sum via bribes ? What is the guarantee that these judges will not have strong motives to give judgments tomorrow in favor of these individuals who spent so much on behalf of their convention ?
No matter what , even a kindergarten class child knows that a majority of judges appointed under this regime are stooges and sycophants of the Rajapakse family. People too know that the judges are bribe takers , and it is their strong conviction that these judges can be bribed to change court verdicts .
It is true in every profession there are honorable and dishonorable members although it is fools who make all professions dishonorable and disgraceful . But the sanctity and honor of a profession can be safeguarded only by a professional , and not by outsiders .
If a majority of these judges have a backbone and a sense of shame , they can take a decision in regard to their own honor and self respect , regardless of others .If they don’t, the public who addressed them as ‘your honor’ hitherto , addressing them as ‘you scoundrel’ henceforth will be unavoidable. On the 22 nd , it will be possible for everyone to see , how these judges are going to conduct themselves : Are the SL judges fraternity in general going to smear themselves with their own excreta merely to please a few stooges of the fraternity who are most disdainfully insulting the judicial profession by serving the agendas of the outside powers that be, and dancing attendance on them ?
