Maithri to forces : Don’t become traitors following illegal orders, via duty lapses or fanning riots – Make 8 th January ‘Day of National Bravery’

(Lanka-e-News- 06.Jan.2015, 2.20PM) After summoning the commanders of the three forces , Gotabaya Rajapakse has delivered yet another of his characteristic obnoxiously pompous lecture to them in much the same way as he was unlawfully mounting the election rally platforms of his President brother Mahinda Rajapakse .He had blabbered to them that there is nothing for them to fear , and that on the 9 th too , ‘it is our commander in chief of the forces who will continue .’ So saying he has got down a large number of soldiers of his Gajaba regiment to Colombo officially and unofficially.

Rumors are afloat among the media circles that immediately after the election propaganda rallies ended on the 5 th , plans are afoot to introduce road barriers in Colombo , and as soon as elections are concluded to withdraw the police force and bring the city under the control of the forces .

Meanwhile , the common opposition candidate Maithripala Sirisena who is tipped to win the Presidential elections has made an open written appeal to all security divisions . In his appeal the future President has requested them to act wisely without kowtowing to the unlawful pressures brought to bear on them by the autocratic but so called executive chief of the country , and to steer clear of abiding by unlawful orders and engaging in unlawful activities that could brand them as traitors.

In the appeal of the future President ,Maithripala Sirisena it is further mentioned that , ‘we are harboring suspicions that the President’s blabbering speeches made that he would win by hook or by crook , is not for nothing , and it is with the objective of driving the country into a dictatorship even through murder and mayhem in his desperation because his defeat is already writ on the wall. With this foul objective in view various the murderous activities have been launched already , we suspect .’

Recently , hurling of stones and missiles at our Pelmadulla rally ; shooting at the Aralagangwila rally on the 3 rd; firing at three of my supporters yesterday at Kahawatte and injuring them have aroused justifiable suspicions that worse acts of violence and mayhem are in store in the coming days.

In the circumstances , as these acts of violence and state of anarchy can occur at any level, we kindly urge you to ensure against triggering unlawful actions via whatever lapses owing to your own forces or various sections of society which could precipitate riotous situations . It is my belief that the forces in its entirety will see to it that the nation , Democracy and the international image of the country ,are safeguarded.’

Maithripala Sirisena who had made this appeal to the forces also appealed to the people as follows :

Consider 8th of January as a ‘Day of National Bravery‘ amidst the possible violence that can be stoked by the Rajapakses , and therefore be alert and active .

Important :

It is most noteworthy that no sooner the new President is announced by the Elections Commissioner based on the votes polled ,than the powers of the incumbent President cease .All powers of the defense secretary and his appointees too terminate totally at the same time.
