(Lanka-e-News - 14.Oct.2017, 11.30PM) The first phase of the Island wide free WiFi facility in pursuance of the promise made by the Hon. Prime Minister (P.M.) Ranil Wickremesinghe , will be beginning soon . Steps have been taken to provide Free WiFi facility to 100 zones in Colombo to cover the entire city.
The initial measures are under way with the Colombo Municipal Council taking the lead to provide free WiFi facilities to 20 zones. WiFi facilities to over 10 zones are already in operation.
These WiFi equipment are highly attractive and technologically advanced . In addition to WiFi Facilities there are provisions for waste disposal and to charge mobile phones .
The policy development office under the P.M. said , the primary aim of installing environment friendly WiFi equipment is to bring Sri Lanka on par with the third world of latest technology , and to introduce that modernization to our cities.
In the next phase ,the remaining 80 zones suitable for WiFi facilities are to be identified . Gradually , this facility is to be extended to Matara, Galle, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya , as well as other areas of the entire Island.
