(Lanka-e-News -21.March.2018, 8.45PM) The no confidence motion bearing the signatures of 55 M.P.’s against prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe was handed over to the speaker of parliament today (21) at 2.30 p.m. by Dinesh Gunawardena M.P.
A group of MP.s including ex president Mahinda Rajapakse were present on the occasion.
51 M.P.s of the Joint Opposition , and four M.Ps of Sirisena faction had signed the motion. The four M.P.s are : Nishantha Muthuhettigama , T.B. Ekanayake , Susantha Punchi Nilame and Cader Masthan.
Meanwhile Akila Viraj Kariyawasam the education minister and Deputy secretary UNP speaking on the no confidence motion said , the sole aim and objective of the no confidence motion was to avert the legal actions that are being taken against the frauds , corruption and murders which were committed in the past , and to whitewash the egregious sins of the Joint Opposition.
Not a single UNP er has extended support to it , and he does not think there are mentally deranged members in the UNP who would act that way , Akila pinpointed, while adding if the no confidence motion is tabled it will definitely be defeated .
