(Lanka-e-News- 15.March.2015, 4.30PM) The Indian Prime Minister (P.M) Narendra Modi , who visited Sri Lanka (an Indian P.M. touring SL after 28 years), after a very successful and fruitful two day tour and left the Island at 8.00 last night.
The Indian P.M. who signed four agreements with SL said , India and SL should be the two engines in the development processes in South Asia. This statement is viewed in the political circles as most significant because it was made in the parliament of SL , the oldest in South Asia.
Modi who met with SL president Maithri, Prime Minister Ranil, Foreign minister Mangala Samaraweera ,opposition leader Nimal Siripala and the SL Trade Council yesterday , also met with former president Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunge.
Prior to addressing the SL parliament yesterday evening , he visited the memorial erected in memory of the two thousand or more Indian peace keeping force soldiers (IPKF) who sacrificed their lives to protect the territorial integrity of SL, and paid his respects .
Day before yesterday night , he attended a dinner hosted by SL Prime Minister . The leaders of Indian community as well as important Indian nationals in SL participated.
After visiting Anuradhapura Sri Mahabodhi and Ruwanweli Seya last morning with SL president Maithripala Sirisena and paying homage to those sites , he toured Taliamannar and Jaffna. When he was on the pilgrimage touring Ruwan Weli Seya , there was a sudden rainfall without any signal. This was considered by the devotees as a divine blessing showered on Modi.
During his tour of Jaffna, Modi met with chief minister of north Vigneswaran , TNA leader R. Sambandan and several others and held discussions. Modi said , the new government of SL has initiated a change , and requested the TNA to act with patience , and assist the new government to carry forward its program.Modi travelled to Jaffna in a plane belonging to Indian airlines.
The railway line from Medawachchiya to Talaimannar which was built under the re development program with the aid of India was inaugurated by Modi today. The Tiger organization destroyed the Kalladi bridge 27 years ago ,whereby travelling by rail was completely disrupted. To construct this railway line extending 106 kilometers was built at a cost of Rs. 2530 million by India.
The Indian P.M. who returned to Colombo in the evening attended a party at the Indian house . Thereafter he left for India in the last night .
