(Lanka-e-News- 29.March.2015, 5.00PM) Buddhadasa Priyantha Sirisena the younger brother of the incumbent president of the country Maithripala Sirisena and chief of Rajarata builders who was attacked with an axe following a personal dispute on the 26 th passed away on 28 th at dawn at a Colombo private hospital where he was being treated in the intensive care unit. He was 43 years old at the time of his death.
Priyantha Sirisena is the youngest brother of the president ,. He was born on 12- 12- 1972 in Polonnaruwa. He secured his primary education at Polonnaruwa Laksha Uyana junior school , and passed his GCE adv. Level at Gampaha Udupila maha Vidyalaya . Later he followed his higher education at Gampaha Galahitiyawa Madhy maha vidyalaya and at Polonnaruwa Thopawewa maha vidyalaya . He is a popular businessman , owning the enterprises – Polonnaruwa Rajarata builders and recently commenced ( a few months ago) Rajarata rice Co. Pvt. Ltd.
He was popularly known as Weli Raju in society and was noted as ready to commit any evil or do good . He is a father of three children. His funeral is scheduled to take place on Monday the 30 th at 3.00 p.m. at Polonnaruwa general cemetery , according to his family members. The assassin , Haputhanthrige Don Nishan Lakmal Haputhanthri had surrendered to the Bakamuna police , from where he was handed over to the Kaduruwela police.
The assassin was thereafter produced before court by the Kaduruwela police and remanded until the 14 th of April. The suspect had made a confession regarding the attack, and has also handed over the axe (porowa) to the court .
The assassin had told police that on the day of the incident Weli Raju gave him a telephone call and told that he was coming to inquire about an episode to his residence Since , Weli Raju was drunk and angry , the suspect had moved out of his home and was watching in fear. Weli Raju who arrived at Nishan’s home with another two or three others , had started scolding his parents and attacked them , the suspect revealed to police while adding that all of them who came to his house were drunk.
Nishan Lakmal who could not bear to see his father being attacked had then come forward and in his sudden provocation attacked all with the porawa he could lay hands on regardless of who he was attacking. Thereafter he had thrown away the porowa and surrendered to the police , Nishan who surrendered to the police had disclosed .
However , the residents of the area had a different story to relate : Weli Raju was having a clandestine illicit affair with Nishan’s wife. That is the reason Nishan attacked Weli Raju in his head with a porowa .
The president Maithripala Sirisena had earlier frowned upon and condemned the misconduct and immoral involvements of his brother Priyantha Sirisena . Indeed , Maithripala even before he became a presidential candidate, at a meeting, Maithripala stated with deep regret ‘in some families there are brothers born to tarnish the family name . That is fate. What can be done for that?’
The police anticipating the friends and associates of the deceased Priyantha Sirisena alias Weli Raju launching a retaliatory attack have provided security protection to the house and garage of the suspect.
The president who was in China during the attack launched on his brother is due to return to Sri Lanka after the conclusion of his tour on the 29 th as scheduled.
