Somawansa exclaims ‘I have left JVP. I am forming new party tomorrow’ prompted by senile mental decay

(Lanka-e-News- 2015.April.17, 10.00PM) The sudden decision taken yesterday(16) to resign from the JVP by Somawansa Amarawansa , the ex leader and its present foreign secretary who is generally already treated as  feeble , long past his prime , and has lost his utility  in the political sphere , therefore not deserving anything more than a  life of a  pensioner , is a result of his own mental failure due to his  senile decay , and not because of his party’s failure according to reports reaching Lanka e news inside information division.

Somawansa Amarawansa incidentally is 74 years old .

Somawansa exhibited his physical and mental instability   yesterday during the day, when he convened  a media briefing and said , among other issues which he faces within the JVP, are: he  is having doubts whether it will be possible  to go to  temples , mosques and  churches ; and will it become necessary to work for 24 hours if the JVP comes into power ? Since he cannot go ahead without giving  due consideration to these issues preying on his mind , he is resigning from the JVP to launch a new party, he added.

It is significant to note these worries of Somawansa have no relevance , if one harks back to the eighties when the JVP in fact  faced such criticisms from the people , but those are not  the criticisms leveled against the JVP  at present , because the JVP that formed alliances with governments and secured ministerial portfolios then is not following that policy now , which fact the people are fully aware.

On 5 th April when Somawansa attended the heroes commemoration, he did not utter a word about this nor did  he raise such issues  though he is blabbering now ,

When Somawansa himself is mainly responsible for the incapacity of the JVP to become a majority party for the last 50 years , he now trying to form another party tomorrow at this ripe old age when he has lost his utility not only in the political arena but even on earth ,is the biggest joke of the century. Unfortunately , the Guinness book of records does not tolerate jokers ,otherwise Somawansa could have found himself a place in it , and taken  solace that though he failed politically most miserably ,he succeeded after all despite his senile decay to get  his name entered in the Guinness record book .

When looking back into the history of the JVP , during the past many years before Anura Kumara Disanayake became its leader , Somawansa’s mental instability became manifest on many occasions. It was Tilvin Silva who shouldered the responsibilities of the leader unofficially during those times. Subsequently , Anura Kumara  was appointed as the party leader .

In the past Somawansa had been suffering from regular fits of  temper tantrums, it is reported .  Yesterday , though he told at the press briefing he convened, that he was resigning from the JVP , he had not intimated this to the party . It is learnt that the media conference was summoned yesterday by Somawansa based on his sudden and grave provocation which is often a characteristic of  lunatics.

The other JVP party leaders on the hand conducted themselves like the children who show concern for a feeble father who has deserted  their home in a fit of rage.  Vijitha Herath who attended a media briefing yesterday remained calm , later however he revealed to the media , that the decision supposedly taken by Somawansa is his own personal one , and was not communicated to the party . There is no division ,and discussions are being held to keep him within the party , he added.

In any event , there is no truth in the rumors afloat that Somawansa Amarasinghe is conjointly with Wimal Weerawansa seeking to propel Mahinda Rajapakse to power , based on reports reaching Lanka e news. It is noteworthy it is Somawansa who worked with assiduous ardor to rid the political turncoat Weerawansa from the JVP , and Somawansa is not an individual who can be bought over by the Rajapakses who are notorious for wasting  monies on such missions even misusing public funds.

When Rohana Wijeweera founded the JVP in 1964 , it was Somawansa who was its member at that time , and he was older than Wijeweera by two years. After the 1971 insurgency , Somawansa was jailed and he was a pro Rohana Wijeweera politician . In 1978 after being released from jail , when he resumed politics , Wijeweera took into the politburo very much younger members than Somawansa , while leaving out the latter . Somawansa then began duties as a district secretary , Kalutara . Though there was only one  district secretary for  each district secretariat , at Kalutara another district secretary worked along with Somawansa. This district secretary’s name was  Wanasinghe a scholar who was a one of theariticians of the party

It is now clear that even Wijeweera at that time was somewhat aware of the instantaneous  decisions taken by Somawansa and his impetuous nature. Following the proscription of the JVP in 1983 , in the new  phase, since  Somawansa was with the party from  1964, he   was made a member of the politburo solely on the  ground that he was very senior.

Then , when all the politburo members were killed , Somawansa without notifying the party went abroad after leaving  by boat to India, and saved his life. After  traveling to England , he obtained political asylum. Thereafter , he established links with the group of JVP activists in Sri Lanka who were reviving the JVP. When he returned to SL , he was appointed as the leader of the JVP. Anura Kumara Dissanayake himself recently declared that some of the decisions taken by Somawansa  when he was the party leader were not correct .

It was a considered strong  opinion of Wijeweera that if a bus driver is sent on retirement at 55 years of age , political leaders should also be sent on compulsory retirement similarly. When Wijeweera was saying this, Wijeweera was already past 40, and to a great extent past his utility in his political career . Somawansa’s eccentric conduct yesterday had confirmed and underlined the need to send  JVP political leaders on compulsory retirement at the age of 75 years
