‘I do not know whether my body , head or legs are tied ’ Ranil on verdict of SC judges who stripped nude before rogues

(Lanka-e-News- 15.May.2015, 11.30PM) ‘I do not know whether my body , head or legs are tied . If I get the opportunity  to read the court order  , only then I shall be able to know what has been done to me, said prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe when addressing a national convention on ‘media re structuring.’ He made this comment with reference to the court order averting the arrest of ex defense secretary Gotabaya Rajapakse .

Wickremesinghe went on to comment further as follows :

That order has not been received by the government and the verdict  given in response to Gotabaya ‘s Fundamental rights (FR) petition was known only through the media .Of course , Gotabaya has an absolute right to file a FR petition, and  court has now delivered a judgment , but  we have still not received that verdict.

We had  need to make representations  in this regard, yet we were denied that opportunity. That opportunity is made available only in October. However president Maithripala says , by November there will be a new parliament. That means our present cabinet will not be able to make representations  to court  in October .

In November , if it is our UNP government that is elected to power , the parliament structure will change. Some may  lose their seats  in parliament , and new parliamentarians may come in.  To whom are we going to make the representations regarding the activities of the ministers and MPs of the parliament and public officers based on the decisions taken by our  cabinet appointed by that very parliament ? This is an issue. Is the cabinet of 2016 going to be responsible for the decisions taken since January 2015 regarding the issues of 2010 ? So , I am also stranded with no place to go.

The unit created on a cabinet paper to investigate grave financial frauds and corruption is  under  the purview of the IGP .After the investigations are concluded , with the permission and advice of the attorney general(AG), action is taken. Hence , to describe such a unit as a witch hunt is wrong.

Now , since president Maithripala Sirisena is the chairman of the Commonwealth  , I am suggesting  to secure legal advice of the commonwealth  pertaining to the verdict delivered by the court in respect of Gotabaya Rajapakse. That should not be reported as interference of foreign countries in our affair
