(Lanka-e-News- 25.July.2015, 2.30 PM) One of the firearms that was to be used in the march past to honor president Maithripala Sirisena at which he was to take the salute , had in it a bullet .This was discovered when an inspection was made by the Presidential security division (PSD) before the parade.
The students of Gampaha Bandaranaike Vidyalaya were to conduct a march past in honor of the president who was gracing the occasion as the chief guest at the School prize giving yesterday (24). However when a gun in the hands of one of the students who was to take part in the parade was inspected by the Presidential security division (PSD) , a bullet was discovered in it.The PSD had done this inspection before the scheduled arrival of the president .
This gun had been issued by the army students force of the Rantembe camp. This gun was given over to Gampaha police on security grounds the previous day. Today it was again taken back from the Gampaha police.
No matter what , not only the student soldiers , even the firearms used by the army when according a guard of honor to a high ranking officer of the army when he is taking the salute too , a part of the barrel of the firearm is severed off . Hence , even if it is loaded with a bullet , its firing cannot cause harm .In any event there is no information whether the barrel of this gun was severed or not in this instance.
It is with profound concern we recall that some months ago when President toured Hambantota , an attempt was made on his life . On that occasion ,a security officer of Namal Rajapakse with a loaded pistol was apprehended when he after deceiving all the PSD officers managed to get close to the president .
It is hoped that when we sincerely and truly expose the dangers to the life of president it will not be treated in the same way as the shepherd was in the ancient story who cried wolf , when the people ignored the cry until the wolf truly came and devoured the sheep.
