Polling concludes: about 70 % cast votes; ‘We can form government’ –Sri Kotha spokesman

(Lanka-e-News- 17.Aug.2015, 10.30PM) The parliamentary elections voting has concluded , and counting of votes have begun . At the concluding stages of the voting , because of a sudden downpour , the commencement of counting was slightly delayed, the elections commisioner disclosed.

Based on the polling Islandwide , a UNP headquarters spokesman said , 73% to 74% have voted, and it is likely that the UNP can form a government of its own because it can get a clear majority .

The Kurunegala district that was the focus of many , at several places , the UPFA polling agents did not return after they went for meals, it is reported.

15,044491 voters were eligible to exercise their franchise and  12314 polling centers Islandwide facilitated the polling. According to the returning officers , the percentage of polling were as follows:

Kurunegala - 65% -68%
Anuradhapura- 70% -73%
Trincomalee -75%
Badulla  -70%
Gampaha-70%
Puttalam -66.5%
Kegalla-70% -75%

Nuwara Eliya-70%
Matara  -70%
Mannar -70%
Digamadulla -65%
Ratnapura -70% -75%

Moneragala  -65%
