(Lanka-e-News -23.Sep.2015, 10.00PM) “I was shocked when I read a news report in the front page of ‘Adha’ Sinhala newspaper on Monday , that an agreement has been signed regarding a bridge to be constructed connecting India and Sri Lanka . I never discussed this when I was in New Delhi. The newspaper should ask for an apology from the readers for purposely misleading them ,” prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe told in parliament when informing the parliament of his Indian tour.
''This was never discussed . Nithin Jairam Hadhkari , minister of road transport , highways and naval affairs alone has stated about the benefits of the project without any research being done. Hence this news report was published without proper inquiries being made , causing harm to the readers and eroding their faith.
This news report was deliberately aimed at deceiving the readers, but finally , it is the newspaper that makes such reports which loses its credibility. The newspaper should tender its apology to the readers.
It is only the politicians who are unwelcome among people , without a vote base and who are searching for oxygen to artificially breathe life into themselves gain from these base tactics and tricks and take advantage of such news canards,'' the P.M. revealed in parliament.
