Is this how you treat the officers of armed forces ? Are they to go to Geneva to seek redress ?

(Lanka-e-News -04.Oct.2015, 8.30PM) It is a matter for deep regret that despite the president instructing to extend the special allowances paid  to the executive grade officers of the government, to the officers of the three armed forces from 1 st July 2015 , still these allowances have not been paid to the officers of the three forces, Lanka e news lamented in its report of  28 th August 2015.

It had been pointed out by the additional secretary to the defense ministry  and the co ordinating secretaries  of the three forces that these allowances cannot be granted to the  three forces because they do not come under the category of so called government servants, and in support of this argument  they cited most bizarre grounds.

In any event with the  end of the 100 days program , under the new government of  good governance, the   new defense secretary Karunaratne Hettiarachi , State defense secretary Ruwan Wijewardena , the president and the prime minister  must address this issue and mete out justice. It should be pinpointed that following the decision that armed services are not of the government service , based on the circular  6/2006 there can arise serious salary  disparities  between the  officers of the three forces and  the government   officers in the same grades, whereby a grave injustice can result .

Need we remind nincompoops and nitwits, if any exist  that these are officers of the armed services  who cannot take  to the streets and stage protests  unlike the other government servants ; they cannot go on picketing ; and they are the saviors of the motherland  from a 30 years old cruel war ?

Is this the way you are going to treat these officers of the armed services  or rather mistreat them this cruelly  by denying them their special allowances simply by considering them as non government officers and dismissing this grave issue, thereby inflicting a grave injustice on them ? Is there   a group that deserves these allowances more than these armed officers? Or are they to go to Geneva to seek redress ?
