Government relents -‘Give a duty free car’ demand of Government officers successful

(Lanka-e-News- 04.Dec.2015, 10.15PM) The strike staged under  the theme ‘Give a tax free car’ conducted by the Doctors and State officers ‘caste’ was successful. The government relented and has agreed  to withdraw the proposal in the budget to stop issuing duty  free vehicle permits to Ministers downwards including government officers. 

Accordingly , Prime minister (P.M.) Ranil Wickremesinghe revealed in parliament today , that it has now been decided to issue duty free permits to government servants. He  explained that a government servant will be issued two permits maximum, and the first permit will be issued after he has served in the government service for ten years.

Many of the government Institutions were crippled today owing to the ‘Give a tax free car’ strike. In the hospitals only emergency medical treatments were  carried out.

When the  third reading of the budget  or the select committee debate commenced today , the P.M. made this announcement while  addressing parliament regarding the expenditure allocations to the several offices including the P.M.’s , and  presidential secretariat .

The P.M. also revealed  , the cabinet approval had been given to the right to information bill. The report of the committee pertaining to the attack launched on higher technological accountancy student protestors is also now received . The measures that should be taken to avert such clashes in the future are  incorporated in it , he added
