(Lanka-e-News -18.March.2016, 11.45PM) The concluded ethnic war in Sri Lanka (SL) commenced in all its fury and ferocity after the attempted assassination on the life of the army commander by a sucide bomber at the army headquarters on 25 th April 2006 .From that point of time , even a mother did not dare to tell a child the worth of celebrating a victory and the utter unworthiness of blood.
That decision taken by Prabhakaran targeting me marked the beginning of his end , and his defeat was writ large on his forehead thereafter ,said Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka who was the army commander at that time.
While making the above comments Field Marshal Fonseka went on to reveal that the LTTE terrorist suicide bomber Morris who came with the bomb to kill him is still in prison. The Field Marshal who carried his bowels in his two hands after his stomach was ripped open then following the bomb attack , however now said , he has requested president Miathripala Sirisena to grant presidential pardon to Morris .
The Field marshal made the above revelations when he addressed a media briefing yesterday at the Foundation Institute.
It is an incontrovertible fact that the army commander fought a most deadly war against a most brutal terrorist outfit in the world and steered the country to victory .
Following the Maithri administration alias good governance alias society encouraging all races to live harmoniously as one nation being installed in power , the Field Marshal made a most humane and compassionate announcement that was in line with a Maithri reign advocating humaneness and kindness ,instead of speaking in a tone of arrogance following war victory . His speech sent a wave of pleasant shock and won the hearts of all in a world which extols humanitarian qualities in preference to brutal war .
In the stories of war in world history which we have read , nowhere has a victorious war commander made such a humanitarian announcement . In the stories we have read , anything that comes close to this compassion and humaneness is the incident in which Dictator Ashoka after waging the Kalinga war , witnessing the human deaths that resulted , becoming frustrated so much so that he abandoned his ‘Waidika’ religion and embraced Buddhism . But even in those stories we never came across an army commander who triumphed in the war granting pardon to the enemy who nearly destroyed him completely. Even in the first world war or the second world war, never did we hear a victorious commander of the war making such a humanitarian statement .
In the circumstances this statement made by Field marshal Sarath Fonseka , the former army commander cum present cabinet minister must be inscribed in gold letters in the world’s history books relating to war .This announcement has also special significance vis a vis the determined efforts made by the present government to build a just society where all races can co exist in peace and harmony.
Retired Captain Senaka Haripriya Silva and Retired Major General Sunil Silva were present at the media briefing when Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka made this announcement .

People, open your eyes. This is a political gundu. If the Field Marshall can forgive Morris the bomber, why can't he forgive MaRa the corrupt arsonist and journalist-hater?Notwithstanding the severe transgressions of MaRa he was never a suicide bomber.
