Duminda Silva and five others sentenced to death in Bharatha Lakshman murder !

(Lanka-e-News -08.Sep.2016, 9.00PM) Colombo High court delivered today the verdict in connection with  the murder by shooting down four persons  including Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra on the evening of 2011-10-08  at Kolonnawa .   Six suspects including R . Duminda De Silva were sentenced to death.

The bench comprising judges , Shiran Gunaratne (president) , Ms. Padmini Ranawake and S. C. B. N. Moraes which heard the case delivered a dissenting judgment 2:1. As predicted by Lanka e news earlier on , Shiran Gunaratne was the dissenting judge.

The panel that met in the morning took three hours to deliberate on the judgment. The wife of late Baharatha Lakshman and his daughter Hirunika Premachandra were present in court when the verdict was delivered.

The accused including  Duminda Silva said , they will appeal to the Supreme court (SC) against the High court verdict. In any case the accused will have to remain in jail until the SC   gives a decision .They have to wear the ’jumpers’ anyway . Since this was a case heard by the panel of three judges , it is possible for the SC  to hear the appeal with a five judges panel.

However in the appeal , evidence will not be called again.

11 suspects including Duminda Silva ex M.P. were  the defendents in this case.

A detailed report shall follow .

Justice has prevailed. If the Rajapaksa regime was in power the verdict would have been different with the police not been allowed to do an independent job.

You have said "as predicted by Lanka e-news" about the dissenting judge. Please reproduce the article for the reference of the readers. Your "judgements" have always proven correct.
