(Lanka-e-News - 15.Feb.2017, 11.30PM) The Women and Children’s Desk (WCD) at the Kanagarayankulam Police Station, Vavuniya was officially declared open today by the United Nations Resident Coordinator, Ms. Una McCauley, European Union Ambassador to Sri Lanka, H.E. Mr. Tung-Laï Margue, UNICEF Representative Mr. Tim Sutton, Deputy Inspector General of Police Mr. Deshabandu Thennakoon, Additional Government Agent Mr. Thires Kumar and Northern Provincial Probation Commissioner Mr. Wisvaruban.
A UNICEF initiative supported under the European Union Support to District Development Programme (EU-SDDP), the Women and Children’s Desks will ensure a confidential and secure environment for victims of abuse in the area.
