(Lanka-e-News -03.Nov.2017, 7.25PM) The local government elections will be held either on a Sunday or on a day which is not a public holiday between 20th and 31st January 2018 , and nominations will be accepted for three and half days between 11th and 20 th December 2017, states the official communique issued under the signature of the Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya .
The communique also states , as the minister of provincial councils and local government has released the Gazette notification on 2017-11-01 revealing the number of members of the local councils , there is now nothing to bar the holding of elections . Hence on that same day when the elections Commission committee met , the foregoing decision was arrived at , the communique further disclosed.
