How keep our Army clean..? No Politicize, Be Professionalize..!

(Lanka-e-News- 03.Feb.2015, 11.30PM) The present Sri Lanka Army is highly politicized and qualified, experienced, most suitable officers do not get their due places unless they have political influence. At the same time those who do not have any qualifications, any experience or other pre-requisites are given important appointments and other privileges with the blessings of politicians. Therefore many corrupt officers hold important appointments due to their political affiliations. As such following suggestions are made for consideration;

1.     Army officers should not be attached to any politicians/ministers whilst they are serving in the Army. (At present many ministers have serving Army officers as their Principal Staff Officers / ADCs / Security Officers)

2.    All those officers who served under various ministers during the last few years should be sent on compulsory retirement. There has to be a proper system to ascertain their wealth and those who can not provide reasonable explanation for their sources of income should be dealt as per the law of the land.

3.      All those officers who served under various ministers during the last few years should not be allowed to enter any Army camps/ installations in the future.

4.    All those officers who held various top level appointments in various government institutions with the blessings of politicians should be sent on compulsory retirement.  There has to be a proper system to ascertain their wealth and those who can not provide reasonable explanation for their sources of income should be dealt as per the law of the land.

5.    All government politicians should be educated to not to interfere into the appointments, promotions and other assignments of Army officers.

6.    The Commander of the Army should be given the opportunity, freedom and authority for the Command, control and all administrative matters in the Army.

7.    All those serving Army officers who got involved in politics during the Presidential Elections in 2004, 2010 and 2015 should be sent on compulsory retirement. This is including the Army officers who appeared on TV programmes during the Presidential Election in 2010 in favour of then President of the country. These officers should not be allowed to visit any Army camps/installations in the future.

8.    All officers who got involved in politics in favour of present President and also opposition candidate during the recently concluded Presidential Election should be Court Martial and they should be jailed if found guilty.

9.    Escorts / Drivers / Buddys of all retired Major Generals / Lt Generals should be withdrawn if they have got involved in politics. Colonel Commandants of all Regiments should be held responsible to ensure that such officers do not keep any Army personnel. They should be prohibited to enter any military camps / establishments.

10.    Present CDS who has played a key role in planning certain unacceptable / unethical / illegal acts on the day of Presidential Election should be sent on compulsory retirement after a Court Martial. He should not be allowed to keep any Drivers / Escorts after leaving the CDS appointment.

Above mentioned suggestions are made with a view to change the existing unacceptable practices in the Sri Lanka Army and to make it a professional Army.

Most of this major generals comments can be take as guiding rule for future, Nothing can be taken for the past hence all government servants had to do their jobs according to the rules make by their superiors. In that sense this major general also should understand his period of job he did, During 2005 General Sarath Fonseka too went behind the former president and support him in his election while requesting the commander post. That is the way he was appointed as the commander of the army after MR came to power. All those military officers including this major general have done politics in the military after 1977. The present Government has come to do good governance. Instant of taking revenges as the former government correct the system and all will be very independent to work for a better country. The good governance should be on exemplary not to take revenges as this odd major general says. And those who have done willingly or not will be corrected and we all will have a better country with unity and harmony. That is what we expect from our present President and gentlemen Priminister Ranil Wickramasinghe/ .

This is long over due, must implement this law to all armed forces & police.Its really depressing when it comes to police.Must have a strong governing body overseeing police officers conduct & their sudden wealth.All unexplained wealth & assets must be confiscated.

First time I heard about Army Officers being attached to Ministries to serve Ministers!!!!. Never heard. If that has happened, then the secretary defence must also be court martialed for that. Military Liaison Officer in the Ministry of Defence is a requirement though. I agree to Most of the above. Has the writer conveniently left out those distributed leaflets, pamphlets to soldiers as an attempt to support Mr Rajapaksha. There are so many things one can say about the Army. What has been pointed out are basics of an Army or for that matter any armed force. They are very correct. There are many other crimes committed by Army officers such as getting favours from LTTE sympathizers, doing politics, robbing etc etc. Any sensible soldier will tell what is not right in the Army. Need not be a General. Unfortunately the previous govt destroyed the Army and the Generals supported those in power. Time has to come to open eyes. Is there one who can do this. I don't think the govt cannot do very much immediately when they have more things to do in 100 days !!! I pity our Armed Forces and the country.
