Mr. Saliya Pieris PC
President,
Bar Association of Sri Lanka

Dear Sir

Re: Information about a threat to the life of a client namely Mr. Keerthi Rathanayake

I have been retained by the above-named client in respect of an investigation carried out by the Kollpetty Police Station about information provided by him to the High Commission of India.

My client informed me that he was asked to report to the Police station Kolpetty today morning to record a statement in respect of the information provided by him to the said High Commission and he further told me that he would accompany by an officer attached to the High Commission.

However, at one point my client was arrested by the officers attached to the Colombo Crime Division and he was brought there. Thereafter Mr. Amila Egodamahawatta AAL visited there upon my instructions and met my client in the presence of OIC and several other officers of CCD.

Mr Egodamahawatta was informed by the said OIC that they would obtain a detention order under PTA for three days for investigations.

Thereafter a close friend of my client informed me that CCD plans to take him to Kandy tomorrow morning and he said there is a great danger to his life during the journey to Kandy.

In the aforesaid circumstances, I humbly request you to intervene in this matter and inform the relevant authorities to safeguard his life.

Regards

Upul Kumarapperuma

Attorney at Law
