A three-member committee has been appointed today by Speaker to investigate the allegations leveled against IGP Deshabandu Tennakoon

(Lanka-e-News -23.April.2025, 11.00 PM)A three-member committee has been appointed today (23) by Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramanayake to investigate the allegations leveled against Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon.  Justice Preethi Padman Surasena of the Supreme Court has been appointed as the Chairman of this committee.

The other members of the committee are:

  • Former Court of Appeal Judge and current Chairman of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC), Neil Iddawala

  • Chairman of the National Police Commission, Lalith Ekanayake

According to parliamentary sources, the committee is expected to commence its activities without delay. The appointment of Neil Iddawala as a member of the committee was made with the full agreement of both the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition.

Furthermore, sources indicate that IGP Deshabandu Tennakoon will be summoned before this committee in the near future. The proposal to establish this three-member committee to investigate the allegations against the IGP was passed in Parliament with a majority vote on the 8th of this month.

Once the committee completes its investigations, the final report must be submitted to the Speaker. Any proposal to remove IGP Deshabandu Tennakoon from office will be presented to Parliament only after the report is received.
