Another Actor in Haloluwa Shooting Farce Makes Confidential Statement as Former President’s PR Chief Remanded Again

-By A Special Correspondent

(Lanka-e-News -06.June.2025, 10.10 PM) The sensational saga surrounding the staged shooting of Thushitha Haloluwa, former Director General of Public Relations to ex-President Ranil Wickremesinghe, has taken yet another theatrical twist — with yet another “actor” involved in the botched performance giving a confidential statement before Colombo Additional Magistrate Pasan Amarasena.

The ongoing investigation — which has now taken on all the flair of a low-budget crime drama — centres around Haloluwa’s dramatic claim that a gang attacked his vehicle one night on Narahenpita’s Milk Board Road, firing shots and stealing a confidential dossier containing sensitive information about current President Anura Dissanayake.

The latest twist came as Mohammed Faris, a 40-year-old resident of Narahenpita-Chitra Lane, currently in remand custody over the incident, was escorted into court to provide his private testimony. Faris, reportedly a “stagehand” in this political pantomime, is not the first of the drama troupe to turn state witness. Another ‘performer’ had earlier given a secret deposition as well.

The case, being handled by the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD), has so far seen six individuals — actors and a supporting actress — arrested and remanded. Those named include: Mohammed Faris, Samitha Bandara, Surangi Udethika, Ruwan Susitha, Mohammed Sasni, and Mohammed Safras.

According to sources close to the probe, investigators have already secured court orders to obtain and analyse phone records and bank transactions of all suspects, including Haloluwa. Preliminary findings suggest that the entire incident was orchestrated under the remote supervision of an individual based in Dubai — who allegedly paid LKR 200,000 for the job. Interestingly, this Dubai-based figure is said to be a long-time associate of Haloluwa himself.

All suspects, including the most recent confessor, were ordered by the court to be remanded until June 12.

In a separate yet equally incriminating development, Haloluwa — who also previously served as the Executive Director of the National Lotteries Board — is facing charges under the Public Property Act. Allegations include the unlawful removal and use of state property: specifically, an Apple iPad and Apple laptop with charger valued at LKR 478,307. Haloluwa is accused of taking these items home upon leaving his official post.

Following his production before Fort Magistrate Nilupuli Lankapura today, Haloluwa was once again ordered to be remanded — this time until June 13 — in connection with the misuse of public property.
