JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva to Address Sri Lankan Community in London Following Talks with UK Envoy in Colombo

(Lanka-e-News -22.Nov.2025, 11.20 PM) Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) General Secretary Tilvin Silva is set to address members of the Sri Lankan community in London this weekend, marking a rare high-profile engagement by a senior figure in the National People’s Power (NPP) movement on British soil. The public meeting, organised by the NPP London Branch, will take place on 23 November at 2 p.m. at Alperton Community School, Ealing Road, Wembley (HA0 4PB), and is expected to draw a significant audience from the island’s growing diaspora.

Silva’s visit comes days after a notable diplomatic encounter in Colombo between the JVP leadership and the British High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Andrew Patrick. The meeting, held at the JVP headquarters in Pelawatta, Battaramulla, underscored the UK’s sustained interest in Sri Lanka’s shifting political landscape and the rising influence of the NPP ahead of the next electoral cycle.

According to sources familiar with the discussion, talks centred on Sri Lanka’s economic reforms, governance challenges, corruption concerns, and the broader political atmosphere following the NPP’s growing public support. The British High Commissioner reaffirmed the United Kingdom’s “continued support for Sri Lanka,” emphasising long-standing bilateral ties as well as the UK’s desire to maintain constructive engagement with all major political actors.

Tilvin Silva, regarded as one of the JVP’s most seasoned strategists and a key voice in shaping the NPP’s policy direction, used the meeting to brief the British delegation on the party’s governance proposals, anti-corruption agenda, and economic priorities. Observers note that recent international engagements signal a broader diplomatic recognition of the NPP’s strengthening role in Sri Lanka’s political sphere.

Also present at the Colombo discussions was Tom Soper, First Secretary for Political Affairs at the British High Commission. Analysts view the involvement of senior diplomatic staff as an indication that London is closely monitoring Sri Lanka’s internal political dynamics, particularly as public frustration with established parties continues to deepen.

Silva’s London address is expected to focus on the NPP’s political trajectory, its economic vision for a debt-burdened Sri Lanka, and the movement’s calls for a more accountable and transparent system of governance. Diaspora members attending the event are also anticipating updates on grassroots mobilisation efforts ahead of upcoming national elections.

The NPP London Branch has said the event will be open to the public and will include a question-and-answer session, providing Sri Lankans living in the UK an opportunity to engage directly with the JVP’s senior leadership. With the party increasingly positioning itself as a viable alternative to traditional political formations, the London gathering is likely to serve as both a strategic outreach effort and a barometer of diaspora sentiment.

Silva’s visit marks the latest in a series of international engagements by NPP representatives as the movement seeks to expand its influence, strengthen foreign relations, and articulate its policy platform to Sri Lankan expatriate communities worldwide.
