(Lanka-e-News -2025.Dec.08, 11.30 PM) Today we are facing one of the most unfortunate and dangerous fates that has befallen Sri Lanka in the past century or so. In this difficult time, citizens who love the country are ready to do some service to the country and the people without hesitation.
Among them, there are nearly 600,000 retired government employees in our country. There is no doubt that retirees who have good experience in various professional services such as administrative service, planning, engineering, accountants, doctors, surveyors, etc. will volunteer to serve the country.
If the government extends an open invitation to them, they will definitely come forward to help the government, the people and the country.
We propose to the government to start a voluntary retired civil servant pool for a specific period without any additional payment.
If it is assumed that at least ten percent of the 600,000 people will come, the country can get the voluntary service of about fifty thousand to sixty thousand professionals. If four hours of voluntary service are obtained from each person per day, the country will get more than two hundred thousand man-hours worth of free man-hours per day.
If the skills of retired scholars and professionals are identified and registered through an online system, this pool can be built within a week.
Let us hope that the President will pay immediate attention to this.
