Julie Chung's last duty..! A large donation of 10 helicopters from the US to Sri Lanka.!

(Lanka-e-News -08.Jan.2026, 10.40 PM) The US has decided to donate 10 helicopters to Sri Lanka for use in disaster situations. This is the first time that Sri Lanka has received such a large number of helicopters as a gift.

The US Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Mrs. Julie Chung, has confirmed this by posting a note on her 'X' account.

She says that these helicopters can be used for search and rescue operations during natural disasters such as Cyclone 'Ditwa'.

Accordingly, Sri Lanka will receive these aircraft in the first half of the year and those are scheduled to be handed over to the Sri Lanka Air Force, she has stated in her 'X' account.

Julie Chung, who served as the U.S. Ambassador to Sri Lanka for nearly four years, is scheduled to depart Sri Lanka on January 16. Deputy Chief of Mission Jane Howell will serve as Acting Ambassador until a new Ambassador arrives.

“I have cherished every moment I have spent in Sri Lanka,” the outgoing Ambassador wrote.
