(Lanka-e-News -13.Jan.2026, 11.00 PM) The Cabinet has approved the recruitment of 23,344 teachers, who are considered to be vacancies in the Sri Lanka Teachers Service, at once.
This is in line with the recommendations of the committee appointed under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister’s Secretary to review the recruitment process and manage personnel in the public service.
This is being done by considering the requests submitted to the committee by the respective ministries to fill the vacancies in the departments and other institutions under those ministries.
The total number of vacancies for twenty institutions is 26, 095. Of these, 23, 344 teachers have been mentioned as vacancies for the Sri Lanka Teachers Service. The government is going to fill that number of teacher vacancies at once.
This can be considered the largest single recruitment of teachers in Sri Lanka. This can be considered a positive step taken by the government to take great care of education in the country.
