(Lanka-e-News -13.Jan.2026, 11.30 PM) A recent audit report has revealed serious corruption committed with President Ranil's office vehicles despite the country being bankrupt. Accordingly, 29 vehicles registered in the name of the Presidential Office at the Department of Motor Traffic as of June 9, 2025, but no physical existence could be confirmed.

29 'God knows, I don't know' vehicles..

No written evidence was presented to the audit that these vehicles were handed over to any institution or individual or that they had disappeared. What happened to these 29 vehicles? It could be 'God knows, I don't know'.

Meanwhile, another 27 vehicles that had been taken over by the Ministry of Buddhist Religious and Cultural Affairs were still listed as vehicles owned by the Presidential Office.

Vehicle repairs are also corrupt..

Vehicle repairs at the President's Office are also fraught with similar corruption.

The total expenditure incurred on vehicle repairs at the President's Office during the year 2024 was Rs. 645.34 million and during that year, 53 repairs were carried out on the same vehicle, ranging from 10 to 17 times.

According to information received by the audit, 189 vehicles with an assessed value of Rs. 1 million to 40 million were spent on repairs in the range of Rs. 1 million to Rs. 28 million per vehicle during the year 2024.

A fuel-guzzling Benz..

The Presidential Secretariat had provided a Benz for the duties of the Special Projects Division, and that Benz was a waste of the country's public funds. According to the reports of the Transport Division of the Presidential Secretariat, this vehicle can only run 6 kilometers on a liter of fuel. A huge amount has also been embezzled by supplying fuel to this wonderful Benz.

During Ranil's term from November 2022 to September 2024, this vehicle had driven 30,669 kilometers, and thus, although approximately 5,150 liters of fuel were required for that, 7,425 liters of fuel were obtained for this vehicle using the office's fuel coupons, which is 2,300 liters more than the normal requirement.

A fuel-guzzling Benz was not maintained well, and it was also stolen by refueling it. To whom did Ranil give this Benz? Who committed this corruption? Aren't there any penalties for these?

Corruption committed while claiming that the country is bankrupt and the people are being forced to cross a difficult bridge..

All this has been done while the country is bankrupt, while the people are being forced to cross a difficult bridge.

According to the new Audit Act brought by the Malima government, the Auditor General's Department has been given the power to file cases regarding such corruption, instead of submitting reports to Parliament as in the past.

The public of the country is waiting for these cases to be filed.
