(Lanka-e-News -26.Jan.2026, 11.20 PM) This is a request made by the people of Sri Lanka to remove Attorney General Mr. Parinda Ranasinghe, who has caused damage to the rule of law through corrupt practices, and Minister of Justice Mr. Harshana Nanayakkara, who has completely lost public trust, from their respective positions, in order to reaffirm the supremacy of the law which is the collective aspiration of the people.

Your Excellency,
We, the ordinary citizens of Sri Lanka from all districts, who voted for, committed ourselves to, and worked towards bringing the National People’s Power (NPP) government to power—placing our trust in your leadership as President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka—submit this public petition to you with due respect.
We supported this government and your leadership with the strong expectation that the rule of law would be strengthened, justice and fairness would be upheld, and a government would be established where the law is applied equally to all.
However, at present, the actions of the Attorney General—who is acting arbitrarily and in a corrupt manner—are obstructing the fulfillment of the people’s aspirations. In addition, due to the continued irresponsible conduct of the Minister of Justice, public confidence has been severely shaken.
In particular:
• The enforcement of the law is being deliberately delayed
• The corrupt Attorney General is protecting an existing corrupt system
• White-collar and powerful criminals are being given concessions
• The public’s sense of justice is being continuously undermined
• Public dissatisfaction and opposition towards this government are steadily increasing
These have now become open and verifiable facts within society.
Your Excellency, this is not an attack by the opposition. This is the voice of the very people who brought this government to power.
Public Demands
1. Remove the corrupt Attorney General and take steps to restore public trust in the Attorney General’s Department
2. Expedite the establishment of the Independent Prosecutor’s Office
3. Immediately remove the Minister of Justice from his ministerial position
4. Appoint a person with genuine commitment to protecting the rule of law as Minister of Justice
5. Demonstrate through action that no individual enjoys privilege before the law
If these demands are not fulfilled, the growing public discontent and alienation from this government will become impossible to prevent. We submit this letter not to dismantle this government, but to safeguard and preserve it as a true people’s government.
