(Lanka-e-News -16.Feb.2026, 11.20 PM) The police have arrested four people involved in the double murder, including the lawyer who was murdered in Akuregoda on Friday, the 13th.
Among them, two people who gave the shooters two firearms (the shots were fired from a T-56 firearm and a pistol firearm). They are two brothers named 'Sanod Kokila' and 'Nadun Nadeesha', residents of Athurugiriya. The brother is 24 years old and the younger brother is 20 years old.
It has been revealed that they received instructions to provide the two firearms needed for the murder from 'Tharindu alias Tutu' and 'Modara Nipuna' who are abroad. 'Tutu' has been continuously giving instructions over the phone. The police have now uncovered all the information of Tharindu alias Tutu. The two brothers were not paid in cash for the transportation of the two firearms but in exchange for the drug Ice. These two brothers have been involved in the ice business.
The instructions were to rent a vehicle on a 7-day rental basis and to obtain the firearm bag given by another person who came to an ATM machine in Wellampitiya on the relevant day and to give the firearm bag to two other people at another place on another day. The two who obtained the firearms are the two shooters in this double murder. The shooters were given the firearms on the morning of the shooting.
The planning of this murder is very meticulous. One person brings the firearms. Another person transports them. The shooters are different people. Others have helped them escape. In this network, no one knows each other. Each person knows only his part.
Two security guards at a hotel where the suspects were staying have also been arrested.
Police say that the two shooters have been identified. Although airport security has been tightened to prevent them from fleeing the country, it is reported that they are looking into whether they have secretly left the country by sea.
However, the investigations conducted to date have not revealed the involvement of Karandeniyae Sudda in these double murders. Is it possible that he is not involved in this? Or is there an investigation underway to determine whether he is too subtle to be exposed.
These suspects have been identified through investigations conducted by officers of the Criminal Investigation Department and officers of the Western Province South Crime Division.
Meanwhile, Lanka e News is informed that although the total career of the murdered lawyer Buddhika Mallawarachchi is as short as 7 years, he is the owner of many properties including a multi-storey luxury house and a brand new expensive car. It is also reported that the period he trained as a junior lawyer under a senior lawyer was as short as 2 months. A senior lawyer who spoke to Lanka e News said that due to the very short training period, he may have a poor understanding of the ethical practices of the legal profession.
Meanwhile, the Bar Association of Sri Lanka launched an island-wide court strike today (16) demanding that the criminals involved in the incident be brought to justice.
