(Lanka-e-News -04.March.2026, 9.40 PM) Minister of Foreign Affairs Vijitha Herath has signed the condolence book kept at the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Colombo, expressing the condolences of the government and people of Sri Lanka on the death of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
In a post on his 'X' account, the Minister said that he expressed his deepest condolences to the Islamic Republic of Iran on the death of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
He also said that bilateral relations between the two countries had expanded significantly during his tenure and that Sri Lanka still values Iran's friendship and stands with the Iranian people.
"Today, I expressed my deepest condolences to the Islamic Republic of Iran on the passing of His Excellency Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of Iran. During his time, our bilateral relations expanded significantly. Sri Lanka still values Iran's friendship. Our thoughts are with the Iranian people."
