(Lanka-e-News -16.March.2026, 9.10 PM) Amendments have been made to the fuel quota system implemented by introducing QR codes to deal with the fuel crisis. Accordingly, the government is working to increase the fuel quota for passenger buses and provide fuel to farmers without QR codes.
The Chairman of the National Transport Commission, P.A. Chandrapala, says that the amount of fuel provided to passenger buses for a week will be provided within a range of 60 - 360 liters.
The Chairman stated this at a news media briefing held at the Ministry of Transport today (16).
The Chairman stated that the amount of fuel will be decided based on the distance traveled by the buses.
Meanwhile, the Chairman further said that the Sri Lanka Transport Board will provide the necessary fuel to private buses until the due methodology is formulated.
Speaking at the event, Sri Lanka Transport Board Chairman Sajeewa Nandana stated that the Sri Lanka Transport Board issues fuel to private buses through 103 depots across the island. Each bus will be registered at the depots where it receives fuel, and accordingly, the depots will be aware of which private buses are receiving fuel from their depots.
Farmers have been allowed to get fuel without a QR code when receiving fuel.
Accordingly, 15 liters of oil per acre has been allocated for paddy harvesting and 20 liters of oil per acre for paddy ploughing, says the Commissioner General of Agrarian Development.
Meanwhile, the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation requests the public to refrain from accessing fake links circulating on the internet and providing their personal information when registering for a fuel permit.
To prevent data misuse, it is further advised to always use only the official government system and to call the 1919 hotline for any issue
