(Lanka-e-News -01.May.2026, 8.30 PM) The committee consisting of four forensic doctors appointed to investigate the cause of death of Finance Ministry Assistant Director Ranga Nishantha Rajapaksa, who was found dead under suspicious circumstances yesterday (30), has confirmed that the death of the Finance Ministry's Assistant Director Ranga Nishantha Rajapaksa was a suicide due to the injuries he had sustained.

Ranga Rajapaksa, Assistant Director of the Department of Foreign Resources of the Treasury, who was suspended in connection with the incident in which 2.5 million US dollars belonging to the Finance Ministry fell into the hands of a group of fraudsters, had died suspiciously in his garden in Kuliyapitiya yesterday (30).

The police stated that three cuts were found on the veins above the ankles of both his feet and on the left hand, and a knife was also found near the body, and accordingly, police investigations were underway to find out whether this was a suicide or a murder.

Later, the Ministry of Health appointed a panel of four forensic experts to conduct a post-mortem examination of the Assistant Director of the Ministry of Finance who died suspiciously.

The magisterial inquest into the incident was held yesterday and the post-mortem examination was conducted at the Kuliyapitiya Teaching Hospital this afternoon (01).
