(Lanka-e-News -04.May.2026, 6.20 PM) The 2026 World Workers' Day or May Day 2026 has ended. It ended in Sri Lanka by setting a world record. That is, the world record set by a single party in the world by holding 21 May rallies at 21 locations on a single May Day. That world record was set by the people's government, which took power for the first time in Sri Lanka's 2500-year-old written history. Although it was called 'National People's Power', it was the people's power of the underprivileged ordinary people of Sri Lanka. The people's government had chosen the right slogan and named the theme of this May Day as "People's Government - People's Power". As said, it was implemented successfully in practice, with all 21 May rallies held covering 21 districts across the country overflowing with the people's heads.
Whether there was state power or not, successfully organizing such a thing is no small challenge for any political party. But the National People's Power had successfully met that challenge. That in itself is a record.
The rally held in the morning in the Malayagam-dominated district like Nuwara Eliya, which showed the 'people's power of the people's government', was filled with people, making it clear that Thondaman, Digambaran and others no longer have political space among the Malayagam people.
The NPP leaders participated in 21 May Day rallies separately. All 21 rallies were filled with people, making the opposition's slanderous statement that 'no one who voted for the government can be found now' a mockery of the dog's ass. The current charismatic leader of the people, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, called the Nuwara Eliya rally and the Colombo Maharagama rally with huge public participation. President Anura emphasized that this government was a government formed by the people and that it would maintain the trust of the people, giving examples of this.
