(Lanka-e-News -2026.July.01, 10.00 PM) Colombo Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasena today ordered former State Intelligence Service (SIS) Director Suresh Sallay, who is being detained and questioned as a suspect in connection with the Easter Sunday attacks, to provide the passwords of his mobile phone, tablet and laptop to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

The order came as the Magistrate ruled on a series of applications filed by the defence at the previous hearing.

Accordingly, if Sallay does not provide the passwords now, it will be a violation of court orders and he will be subject to a separate punishment as it will be considered contempt of court.

Magistrate rejected a bid to have the CID Director removed from the investigation, and turned down a request to allow Sallay access to newspapers, written material and legal statutes while in custody. An application under Section 127 of the Code of Criminal Procedure — seeking to let the suspect make a non-confessional statement before the Magistrate — was also refused, with the court noting that such a statement risked interfering with the ongoing investigation.

A separate application for the release of the first and second suspects, made on the grounds of insufficient evidence under the Prevention of Terrorism Act, was rejected. The Magistrate did grant Sallay's request to be excused from physical appearance in court, ordering instead that he be produced via video link at future hearings. A request for judicial oversight of legal access to Sallay was denied.

The case has been fixed for September 2, when the Magistrate is expected to rule on a separate application filed by counsel for the original complainant, as well as on a request by Ajith Shantha Kumara Jayathilaka — the military officer representing the aggrieved party — to make submissions without the assistance of an Attorney-at-Law.

Sallay's hunger strike ends..

Meanwhile, Sallay, who is hospitalized, has called off his hunger strike today, his lawyers said. The lawyers said he called off the hunger strike at the request of the lawyers.
