(Lanka-e-News -2026.July.03, 2.00 PM) The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) has arrested former Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy, Admiral Wasantha Kumara Jayadeva Karannagoda, on corruption charges.
The arrest took place today, July 3, 2026, at approximately 10:05 AM at the Commission's premises by its investigating officers.
The Charges:
The suspect has been charged with corruption regarding the recruitment of Yoshitha Rajapaksa as a Cadet Officer to the Executive Branch of the Sri Lanka Navy in 2006, despite him not fulfilling the requisite qualifications for recruitment. Furthermore, the suspect is accused of bypassing established procedures to grant him the opportunity to attend a training course at the Royal Naval College in the United Kingdom, funded by state finances.
The arrested suspect is scheduled to be produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court.
