(Lanka-e-News -06 Nov 2026, 11.55 P.M.) The Colombo Magistrate's Court directed the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption to report on the progress of its investigations into the Krrish deal on November 20.
The case was called today (Nov. 06) before Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama. Prison officers produced suspect Namal Rajapaksa, who had been released on bail in this case (but is in custody in connection with other cases), and another suspect, Janaki Siriwardane.
Appearing for the Bribery Commission, its Assistant Director told the court that statements had been recorded from several people, including the Colombo Divisional Secretary and a former Land Commissioner, in connection with this investigation.
The Assistant Director also said statements are yet to be recorded from several people, including Urban Development Authority officials, regarding the transfer of land at Fort's Transworks Square to the Krrish company.
She further stated that a document under investigation in this case, which contains suspect Namal Rajapaksa's handwriting, has been referred to the Government Analyst for examination, and that the Department of the Government Analyst has requested the original of that document in order to conduct the examination.
She said the original document is in a case file in Colombo High Court Courtroom No. 07. She asked the court to issue an order to the Registrar of that courtroom to obtain the document and forward it to the Government Analyst.
At that point, the Magistrate observed that this request was not included in the further report filed today. Accordingly, the Magistrate directed the Bribery Commission to submit the request on a future date, with supporting documents, so that it could be verified.
The Magistrate then ordered that the case be called again on the 20th of this month, and directed that suspect Janaki Siriwardane remain in remand custody until then.
Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa and Janaki Siriwardane, a former director of the company, were earlier arrested by the Bribery Commission and produced in court over an incident of accepting, and aiding and abetting the acceptance of, a bribe of Rs. 70 million in connection with the transfer of land at Colombo's Transworks Square to the Indian company Krrish for a multi-purpose project.
