Attempts of Maithri’s brother Kumarasinghe to suppress a 1750 million tender scam at SLT trapped by FCID !

(Lanka-e-News -31.July.2015, 3.00PM) The vigorous attempts made by the chairman of Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) Kumarasinghe Sirisena , brother of incumbent president Maithripala Sirisena to suppress a fraudulent tender  award  that incurred  a colossal loss of US dollars 13 million! (Rs. 1750 million) to the Sri Lanka Telecom had gone  awry .The Financial crimes investigation division (FCID) has now commenced investigations into this. This loss to SLT is many times more than SLT’s quarterly  profits !!

This massive tender fraud had taken place when the LTE development project was being implemented. The details given in the tender application made by HUAWEI Co. had been taken and given to ZTE Co. in order to facilitate  the latter Co. to forward an appropriate tender offer  which could secure the ZTE Co.  the tender award. Finally , the tender had been granted to ZTE Co. via this manipulation .

This Co. has installed the power supply  claiming that it will extend 2 1 / 2 kilometers using  cheap Chinese antennas. Consequently  ,that supply did not cover even 100 meters . The chief in charge of this is Mahinda Herath  the  main fraudster appointed by SLT chairman. He is a pet henchman of the latter . This fraudster  who receives an ordinary monthly salary is now using a super luxury Benz car worth Rs. 15 million ! it is learnt.

SLT general manager (GM) Ruwan Hewapathiranage had prepared an audit report under his chairmanship in relation to  this fraudulent tender exposing  the flaws . However the SLT chairman Kumarasinghe had purposely suppressed this .This audit report was released on 26 th June .

Since this audit report was hidden by Kumarasinghe , and the recommendations in the report were not followed by him, a concerned group has lodged a complaint with the FCID which  has now commenced investigations.

Ruwan Hewapathirane who prepared the audit report was summoned to the FCID on 28 th July and questioned for over 6 hours ., and yesterday (29) , the tender procurement committee chief Geetha Samaratunge was summoned and questioned for over two hours.

Mahinda Herath the stooge of SLT chairman Kumarasinghe Sirisena who arranged the awarding of the tender fraudulently to ZTE Co. ignoring and by passing the tender procurement committee had coached Geetha how to tell lies to suit his deceitful aims  and ends. Now following disputes erupting between them , Geetha has threatened to reveal the truth to the FCID.

The 1750 million loss incurred by  the SLT because of this tender fraud under the LTE project could have been minimized , but since Kumarasinghe is following a policy of protecting and promoting rogues , this is impeded.Kumarasinghe Sirisena who was cutting and felling trees ,  and who knew nothing about telecommunication ,after his brother Maithripala Sirisena became the president, crept into the SLT Mobitel Co. and became its chairman .Of course his past record bears ample testimony that he knows well and thoroughly the crooked pro MaRa blue brigade team within the SLT and Mobitel. Wegapitiya ,Ranjith Roobasinghe , Mahinda Herath of that team are therefore close associates of his in whose company he will  stoop to any disgraceful level including performing a strip tease act if that would serve to line their pockets .

Sadly , president Maithripala Sirsena is unable to notice the LTE tender scam , and the dirt and dross right before  his own  eyes because those are  too close.
