(Lanka-e-News - 27.Feb.2018, 2.14PM) 76 % of the lands which were used by the army in the North and East since 2009 until now have been returned , said Army Commander Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake in Vavuniya.
The Army commander made this revelation when he attended the inauguration ceremony of a new office complex and a new canteen for the troops built at the Wanni security corps headquarters .The new office complex had been built at a cost of Rs. 20 million and the canteen for the troops at a cost of Rs. 14 million.
The Army Commander further said at the ceremony , another 500 acres have been identified this year to be handed over to the private owners . The relevant lands will be released to the district secretary, and through him those will be transferred to the private owners, he added.
In Mulaitivu , the lands of a group of those who staged fasts had been freed , and even houses have been built and given them , the army commander revealed.
