(Lanka-e-News -02.Nov.2025, 11.00 PM) President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has issued a firm declaration against Sri Lanka’s drug menace, calling for the entire nation to unite in an urgent national mission to eradicate the scourge of narcotics.
Addressing heads of media organisations at the Presidential Secretariat, President Dissanayake said that while political and economic matters may be debated, there can be no division or hesitation when it comes to fulfilling the country’s moral duty to eliminate the drug epidemic.
“The influence of drug trafficking and the financial power of organised crime syndicates linked to it have corroded the economy, society, state institutions and even the rule of law,” the President warned. “This destructive network has crippled our nation’s foundations and we can no longer allow it to thrive.”
He further emphasised that the current administration has taken an unwavering decision not to allow any further tolerance of this national crisis.
The President announced that the official launch of the “National Operation for a Drug-Free Nation” will be held on *30 October at 10:00 a.m.* at the *Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium in Colombo*, under his patronage.
This island-wide campaign is expected to mobilise government agencies, civil society and the public to act collectively and decisively to root out narcotics from every corner of the country.
