Aided and abetted the Easter attacks; Salle is the third suspect in the attacks; CID tells court..!

(Lanka-e-News -05.March.2026, 11.10 PM) The Criminal Investigation Department informed Fort Magistrate Isuru Neththi Kumarage today (5) that the former head of the State Intelligence Service, retired Major General Tuan Suresh Salle, who is being questioned under the Prevention of Terrorism Act, will be named as the third suspect in the investigation into the attacks that took place on Easter Sunday.

The Criminal Investigation Department informed the court that an arrest was made on February 25, 2026, in connection with the incident and that he is currently being detained and questioned for 90 days on permission in connection with the investigation being conducted in that regard.

The Criminal Investigation Department informed the court of this by filing a motion.

The Magistrate inquired whether there was evidence to name him as a suspect.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has filed a further report in court, informing the court that the suspect, Suresh Salle, is accused of not preventing the Easter attacks despite knowing the information and aiding and abetting them.

The CID also requested the court to monitor the suspect as he is under detention orders.

A former Eastern Province Police OIC and two others have been named as suspects in connection with this incident.

This investigation is being conducted in connection with the sensitive information regarding the murder of the two Vavunathivu police officers and the Saindamarudu bomb blast incident that occurred before the Easter attacks. A further report was also submitted to the court regarding the investigation being conducted.

Meanwhile, Suresh Salle has filed a Fundamental Rights Petition before the Supreme Court challenging his arrest and detention under the Prevention of Terrorism Act.

The petition has been filed by a retired officer of the Sri Lanka Air Force named Shantha Jayathilaka.

The respondents in the petition are the Minister of Defence, the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, the Secretary to the Ministry of Public Security, the Inspector General of Police and the Criminal Investigation Department.
