(Lanka-e-News -2026.June.25, 5.40 PM) Three suspects have been arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption today (25.06.2026) for soliciting and accepting a massive bribe in 2023. The bribe was allegedly taken from Madhushika Madhuwanthi, the wife of notorious organized criminal Nadun Chinthaka Wickramaratne, alias "Harak Kata," who was held under detention orders by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

The bribe was allegedly solicited in Dubai in exchange for ensuring the protection of the suspect's life (preventing his assassination), revoking his detention orders, transferring him from the Boossa High-Security Prison in Galle to another prison, and releasing him from ongoing investigations and related legal matters.

According to the investigation, the suspects initially demanded a bribe of LKR 500 million (50 Crores), which was later negotiated down to LKR 200 million (20 Crores). Out of this agreed amount, an advance payment of LKR 120 million (12 Crores) was demanded and accepted as a bribe.

The three suspects arrested today by the Bribery Commission are:
Attorney-at-Law Rakhitha Nirmal Rajapakshe (Son of the former Minister of Justice, Prison Affairs, and Constitutional Reforms, Mr. Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe)
Charitha Vasantha Kumara Abeysinghe (Samagi Jana Balawegaya Organizer for the Horana Constituency)
Warushahennadige Aruna Sri Chathuranga (Former Director of Airport and Aviation Services Sri Lanka Ltd.)

The suspects are scheduled to be produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court.
